Let’s face it by springtime, there’s a lot of things we think we thought we were going go do at the beginning of the year when January came, that are now distant memories.
These may have been things like giving up alcohol, joining the gym, even trying Veganuary (which I can definitely recommend by the way if you missed it this year!). But for many there’s also another thing that doesn’t require any real commitment - it happens whilst you sleep! That’s achieving a brighter smile via tooth whitening. But as Easter approaches did you make that happen yet?
But why consider tooth whitening now?
Well, firstly because the sooner you do it, the longer you will have whiter and brighter teeth!
Why? Because once you’ve done whitening you don’t ever have to go through the whole procedure again - as long as you follow the top up instructions and routine, which really is easy and minimal. So, if you start in springtime, you can have whiter teeth for Easter, summer and on an ongoing basis for the whole year and beyond!
Another reason is because many people think about whitening as the weather gets hotter, usually from about late Spring at tooth we get a rush on people asking for tooth whitening!
But, that can mean longer waits for your free whitening consultation and shade check, and sometimes a slightly longer lead time to book the first stages of the treatments. But the main reason is that there is no reason to wait until summer - whiter teeth a good thing for any season. People often underestimate the full completion times for whitening to take full effect. It isn’t just a one day thing. This is really important to remember if you are thinking of whitening.
Our Philip’s Zoom Tooth Whitening takes approximately two weeks from start of treatment to completion (we also offer in surgery whitening which is done in one session, but to complete the treatment for fuller results there is one to 1.5 week’s worth of at home applications also). Our super popular Enlighten Whitening (the only tooth whitening system that guarantees results) takes around 4 weeks, including the initial use of the special whitening serum, used instead of your normal toothpaste.
Another reason to start the process now is that many of us tend to get a bit sun kissed when the weather finally starts to turn, and for many the skin on our faces gets more tanned in summer months (even though we all know it normally rains most of that time!). If you normally have a relatively fair complexion and you have whitening done when you are tanned, post holiday or just from the British sunshine, then the results of your tooth whitening can be quite noticeable with an almost ‘overnight effect’. By whitening when your skin is less tanned, should you manage to catch some rays as spring moves to summer, it will be more of subtle transition for friends, family and colleagues, but your teeth will still look great!
At our tooth dental practices in London, we use two leading brands of whitening and there are three options in total, suitable for all budgets and needs.
All of our Tooth Whitening products are only available from dentists and can never be purchased legally online or in high street stores or beauticians. Enlighten Tooth Whitening is our premium whitening product, and is the only tooth whitening system to offer guaranteed results. Enlighten Tooth Whitening brightens to shade B1 - which is the whitest natural tooth shade possible (anything whiter can only be achieved through cosmetic treatment such as crowns, composite bonding, veneers etc!). So if you want to really guarantee a whiter smile, we recommend Enlighten.
If you’re looking for a good shade uplift, or working to a smaller budget, then Philip’s Zoom Tooth Whitening could also be a great choice for you and delivers great results. We offer two types of Philip’s Zoom Whitening – In-surgery whitening and Take Home whitening. All of our whitening treatments come with custom made whitening trays, that are yours to keep and can be used for future top ups.
Is tooth whitening expensive?
People often ask me how much whitening costs, and is it really affordable to top up when recommended. Well, at tooth all of our prices are upfront and open! Our current prices for the initial treatments (Zoom Whitening or Enlighten Whitening) are:
Philips Zoom Whitening (At Home) £299
Philips Zoom Whitening (In Surgery) £399
Enlighten Tooth Whitening £599
All of these prices include custom moulded whitening trays for the perfect fit for your teeth, which you should keep and use for top ups later.
Top up kits and guidance depends on which brand you originally selected (you should stick with the same one). For Philip’s Zoom our top up syringes are only £65 for a pack of three. Enlighten Whitening syringes are £99 each (you only need one per top up) and the recommendation for these is to top up your bright smile as below, so the syringe could last up to one year or more!
Year one - one night every two months
Year two - one night every 4 months
Year three onwards - one night every 6 months
As affordability is very subjective, it’s often helpful to benchmark against a regular spend. Let’s look at Zoom top ups at £65, done every six to 12 months. That’s as little as £5.41 per month to maintain a bright smile. That’s less that a coffee and croissant per month! For Enlighten, it’s about £8.25 per month if you buy one top up syringe per year, that’s less than the cost of one glass of wine in a pub!
So, why wait!

Remember also, with everything in dentistry maintaining a healthy oral care routine is critical. You should always aim to attend check ups and hygiene appointments twice per year, unless advised otherwise by your dentist or hygienist.
Here’s to a spring full of brighter smiles!
