dental bridges at tooth.
What are Dental Bridges?
A Dental Bridge is a dental appliance that replaces a missing tooth between two existing teeth - it is called a bridge because it ‘bridges the gap’ between the teeth and the artificial tooth will be made to match your existing teeth. To do this, in many cases, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth are prepared for crowns and the crowns support the bridge - so one bridge could be made up of a crown, a false tooth or teeth, and another crown. If the teeth next to the gap are strong and healthy, then an Adhesive Bridge could be used - also known as a Maryland Bridge. This is a single unit with ‘wings’ on each side which are affixed to the neighbouring teeth. This avoids the need to prepare the neighbouring teeth for crowns.
Top reasons for having a dental bridge:
To replace a missing tooth or teeth (that sits between two existing teeth)
To fill a gap between your teeth
To achieve a more confident and natural smile with no gaps
To replace a tooth that was extracted
To replace a tooth that was lost owing to an accident
What types of Dental Bridges can I get at tooth?
At tooth we do regular Bridges (cantilever) and Adhesive Bridges, also known as Maryland Bridges. The type you need can be advised by your dentist as it will depend on the surrounding teeth also.
How much are Dental Bridges at tooth?
The price of a bridge at tooth depends on the material chosen. Your Dentist can advise as different materials are often selected for different reasons - strength, aesthetics etc.
Porcelain Bonded Bridge £650 (per unit/tooth)
Full Porcelain Bridge (Zirconia and eMax) £725 (per unit/tooth)
Maryland Bridge £725 (one wing) or £775 (two wings)
What should I expect if having a Dental Bridge at tooth?
If having a Dental Bridge, you will need two visits. The first one will be for Bridge Preparation - where the Dentist will make the surrounding teeth (about to be crowned to hold the bridge) ready for the procedure. This will usually involve some reshaping of the tooth and a digital scan or impression will be taken which will be sent to the laboratory in order for them to make your new bridge. The Dentist will also take the shade of your surrounding teeth to ensure that the Dental Bridge is the right colour match for your teeth, so that it will look natural.
Approximately two weeks later, you will have your second appointment, which is known as your Bridge Fit. This is usually a shorter appointment when your new bridge will be fitted, along with any small adjustments needed, over the tooth that was prepared last visit. By the end of the visit your bridge will be in place and you will have a great, natural looking strong ‘tooth’ back again!
How long does a Dental Bridge take?
A Dental Bridge at tooth is completed over two visits (see above). The first visit - the Bridge Prep typically takes around 90 minutes or more (may be less for a Maryland Bridge). The second visit - the Bridge Fit appointment, typically takes around 30 - 60 minutes.
As a result, the Dentist will advise on how long they need for your bridge treatment(s).
Please note that you cannot book straight for a Dental Bridge, so all patients will require a New Patient Check Up or regular check up first.
